This student worker position will support the Collaborative Systems Change project in the Planning and Partnerships section of the Health Regulation Division. This project seeks to identify barriers and trends in infectious disease reporting and management in long term care. This position will support the general functions and activities of the Collaborative Systems Change team.

Responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Assist unit staff with general support of grant-related research into disease prevention and control in long term care facilities, funded through Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC).

  • Assist with research, qualitative and quantitative data collection, coding, and reporting

  • Attend systemic mapping sessions, assist with identifying emerging trends,

  • Data analysis for studies related to COVID-19 disease and other reportable emerging infectious disease collected through the collaborative systems change project

This position is eligible for telework to applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota or South Dakota. Position locations will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out one of the following MDH district office locations: St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Mankato, Marshall, Bemidji, Fergus Falls.

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be enrolled in a post-secondary, graduate or doctoral program. You will be asked to complete an Education Verification form prior to employment.

The successful candidate, under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations, must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently pursuing a postsecondary or graduate program with a minimum of two years of coursework completed.

Knowledge of data analysis software programs sufficient to perform data entry and create summary reports.

Qualifications that will be assessed during the interview process:

  • Experience with public health research methods.

  • Communication skills sufficient to communicate clearly with division leadership and staff.

  • Human relations skills to achieve effective working relationships within the agency and externally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research, coding, and analysis.

  • Experience with disease prevention in public health, health care, health promotion or health regulation.

  • Enrollment in a graduate program in one of the following areas: public health, community health, environmental health, healthcare administration or related field.
