This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.

As a Systems Support Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of Corrections Industry Information Systems & Technologies, including solutions and devices for a specific set of business portfolios within the Business Services Support organization. The role applies communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments for the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

In addition, the Systems Support Engineer will communicate and work in collaboration with MNIT DOC and MNIT Enterprise Services to achieve and meet the operational goals of MNIT Services as well as the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

This position will support across the 11 corrections facilities in Minnesota.

This position requires and employee to onsite occasionally.

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume.

This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of computer systems technical support experience.

Experience must include the following:

  • Experience as the primary COTS and SaaS vendor application support subject matter expert (SME) responsible for resolving application incidents and work requests, performing software updates, ensuring disaster recovery, application availability, performance and security standards are met, thus ensuring solutions are stable and healthy and business needs are met.

  • Experience onboarding, enhancing and integrating internally and externally hosted business applications.

  • Experience coordinating across teams, software vendors and users to ensure smooth and reliable operation of solutions.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting device hardware, including video conferencing technologies.

  • A working understanding of technology or application lifecycle management concepts.

  • Experience with ITIL and project management methodologies, ITSM ticketing systems and maintaining application runbooks and a CMDB.

  • Experience with MNIT Services and/or Minnesota Department of Corrections policies and procedures.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently and collaborate as part of a team, be able to define problems as they arise, and recommend alternative solutions.
