The MNIT MDH team provides services for over 250+ applications and delivers the information technology to drive one of the leading public health systems in the nation. You will support an agency that works to protect, maintain, and improve the health of all Minnesotans.

*Minnesota IT Services may be filling four (4) Junior Developer positions from this one posting. All applicants will be considered for all vacancies.

These positions are temporary, includes full state fringe benefits, and are anticipated to have a duration of a year and a half.**

As a Junior Developer at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) you will be responsible for custom solutions. You will work with other MDH teams at the agency to augment their technical initiatives, working with their lead and MDH partners in the development, configuration, maintenance, and implementation of solutions for MDH that utilize industry standard coding and technology processes. This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume.

This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of programming experience.

Experience must include the following:

  • 1 completed project written with a JavaScript framework (Vue, Angular or React). If selected, you may be asked to provide a link to the website you helped design and implemented as part of the interview process.

  • Familiarity (Classroom is sufficient) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) offerings and/or Cloud Certification in Azure or AWS

  • Java experience

  • Experience authoring and calling APIs, web services and/or microservices.

  • Experience manipulating relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server) with SQL or through an ORM

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for two (2) years of experience, OR a related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year experience utilizing Cloud Services in AWS or Azure or Cloud certification in AWS or Azure

  • 2 years experience in Java

  • Scripting language experience

  • A design aesthetic

  • Ability to cope with ambiguity

  • Automated testing authoring

  • Troubleshooting experience
